Los Angeles Times photographer Kirk McKoy was heading to work for his night shift when word came that a Simi Valley jury was about to announce its verdict in the Rodney King beating trial. Nearly 20 years later he talks about covering the resulting riots at the flashpoint Florence and Normandie avenues.
